I have decided to try and win myself an Amazon Kindle via FuelMyBlog.com in partner with Pertuity Direct. Basically what I have to do is answer the question "If I were loaned $25 000.00 by Pertuity Direct to start an online business what type would it be and describe why I think it would work."
When looking into online retail business I quickly realized that amazon.com has almost everything a person could ever need directly available. This lead me to a dilemma, I had to find a retail focus that I could sustain with a start up of $25,000. To work around this I have decided to focus on a community-wide healthy living initiative for this business.
I see a lot of farmers in our community not being able to offload a ton of their organic product, through a simple and intuitive website I believe I can promote a greener lifestyle in my community, while also selling eco-friendly/organic clothing and non-food items on a national level.
My plan for this start up company is to partner with local farmers, allowing for them to distribute their goods through my website within our community. The website would promote an organic and healthier diet, showcasing current available product in a searchable database much like Amazon's current layout so it will be as user friendly as possible. When the business starts, the deliveries would only be available locally within the community of Brant County, but if there is considerable growth in the business, expansion of delivery service could be considered.
I would like to reach out to other businesses within the area who believe in organic, fair-trade and eco-friendly products and collaborate with them to promote one another and our general ideals. There would be a section on the website for these local businesses showcasing who they are and what they believe in. There would also be the possibility of selling their products on the website. Local cafe's could also host these farmer's products while promoting our website.
This business is directed towards stimulating our local economy in a time of great economic turmoil. It will help keep the money in our community, while helping out the farmers in our area who are already hanging by a thread financially.
The website will also have eco-friendly, non-food items (clothing, hemp materials etc) available on a national level for mail order delivery. This would bring money into the website early on through cheap promotion on national forums and nurture a possible expansion of the delivery services in the future.
This idea is sustainable due to the recent turn towards green, active and healthy living which has been thoroughly promoted through mainstream media outlets. There has especially been an emphasis on this in our community which would allow for a smooth market penetration of our website with only a few ads. I feel $25,000 would be enough to get this business on it's feet and would see definite growth within only a couple of years.
